88 Points

Monday, November 26, 2007 - This was opened by Anwar at a dinner he hosted at his home including Jcubed and Scubarex. This is the 2nd time I have had a GAM. The first was the 2001 which was almost as big a fruit bomb as this wine. I liked the 2001 better than the 2005. I was unaware of any ratings for this wine before I tried it. Once I tasted it I thought to myself that this is a Parker 96 pointer. When I looked up the score, it turns out I was a point off. Parker gave this 95 points. My score is nowhere close to that. Inky black color. Very thick and viscous. I found be a huge concentrated wine which was all power and very little finesse or balance. It was interested for what it was but not a wine that provided me with a lot of drinking pleasure. Very grapey and chocolatey. Parker called this wine a "tour de force in winemaking". In my opinion this was a "tour de force in woodworking". This was one of the most oaky wines I have tried. Thought I would be pulling splinters out from between my teeth after this wine. 87-88 points.
