Community Tasting Note

90 Points

Saturday, March 1, 2008 - Popped and decanted for 6 hours, however, I reserved a small amount in a glass for an initial tasting. Right out of the bottle the nose was rather closed and didn't really offer much...tasted of chocolate, plum, and finished a little hot and tannic which was to be expected. After 6 hours the nose had opened up a little (less than I expected) and I could tell it was trying to do its thing...tasted of black fruit, chocolate...mid palate was nice and finish long; a well balanced wine. Second night was much different, nose had developed much more than prior evening, heat had all but dissipated, and the wine was far better with more subtle notes of raspberry and a little oak showing up...perhaps this should be cellared for another 3 years or so. I would not pass this up if offered and will most likely grab another bottle or two.
