Saturday, June 10, 2023 - Drank this side by side with the 2012. Decanted both for an hour and started with the 89. Still loaded with tannins, Outstanding Earthy Terroir. Cork was almost midnight black. Perfect storage. Tasted like a mature Bordeaux. Tons of astringency musty forest on the nose. This is the last of my 89's but its still going strong. The 2012 was an obvious difference. Not better or worse, just different. The 12 had a giant nose of black berries. In the back was led pencil with cedar undertones. Earthy tones were present here as well and almost Bordeaux like. We paired these with Lamb and both were more on the full body side to me. Montelena is a top top Napa Cab. I am visiting Napa in October and would love to visit the property.
