Sunday, December 16, 2018 - Decanted, served blind, had to guess what it was. It was opaque, clearly very young, highly extracted, very ripe/over ripe with some unpleasant burnt notes. It had a lot of power, but quite an abrupt finish with harsh crash and burn tannins. I guessed USA Syrah, but was way off; when told France I thought southern Rhône or rural southern France. When told Bordeaux I guessed rightbank. Wrong again. Finally I suggested 2005 Cru Bourgeois, and I was correct. It was Chasse Spleen. I have had some very good wines from this property but this was frankly a shocker. It was not flawed or badly stored. Just unpleasant. We both drank half a glass only.
