Tuesday, January 30, 2007 - Medium to lightish color showing signs of resolution and a tinge of brown at the edge. Nice raspberry/strawberry aromas enhanced by a touch of funk and secondary high tones, forest floor, char, and thyme. As it sat open, a classic "herbes de Provence" smell blossomed. Elegant, balanced, and again, medium weight, not monstrous in the mouth, with tangy acidity rather than tannins providing the backbone. Finish could be longer. All in all, a complex and very enjoyable drink, more refreshing than some Grenache-based super cuvees, and not a typical '98 in terms of weight, concentration, or ripeness (I got no overripeness here). This will keep well and develop more secondary flavors over the next few years to accompany the more advanced aromatics.
