Etienne didn't really learn how to manage his Clos-Vougeot (which is not well-sited) until the 2000s. The Richebourg, OTOH, is one of the great wines of the 1985 vintage, even though this was Grivot's first year of it and Etienne says that the vines were not in good condition. So at least you got the right wine corked.
