Sunday, October 25, 2015 - I ordered the 2004 off the list at a restaurant in Germany but it had been finished so they brought the 2000. Transparent and limpid in the glass it soars with an intoxicating blend of coffee, spice and red fruit. High toned, with a touch of tannin running down the spine, there, is that lovely, exuberant, forthright Vosne spice. Initially it's a very well balanced wine, not forced but true to the vineyard and the vintage but it is by no means a great wine (the vintage, vineyard and increasingly the volatility, which with time dominates both the nose and palate but ultimately gives way to a cooler more restrained finish, put paid to this), but it is very enjoyable especially if drunk quickly after opening or perhaps kept longer in the cellar. The nose fleetingly flirts with greatness.
