2005 Château Latour-Martillac

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Monday, November 22, 2021 - 13% alcohol. The cork breaks up at the extraction stage, but this is probably due to the short screw (my mistake for choosing this particular tool). Fairly dark hue all the way to the rim.
The nose is superb with dark fruit, some leather and a very subtle raisiny component. Equally good in the mouth with a perfect balance between grip, fruit, liveliness and poise. No direct oak in evidence, and the tannins are there only as a pleasant memory.
So much better than the Brane-Cantenac 2002 that I had yesterday !
Fine to drink now but with potential to improve over the next five years, and then last another ten.
Over the years, I have tended to see this property as playing second fiddle to Malartic-L, but frankly this wine is worthy of top billing.
