Thursday, November 30, 2023 - 2.5cm fill from cork. The cork came out in one piece, and was hardly falling apart; still very compact. Provenance is possibly good here.

Deep tawny appearance with garnet rims. The wine was very much alive and as time passed, actually went on the ascent rather than descent, with its nose opening up. Mostly tertiary notes to be found here; coffee, burnt toffee, mushroom, earth, dry tobacco and dried apricot. Tannins have completely fallen off but there is still that last bit of fruit left just to hold everything together. Acid was still on point. You can tell that in its youth, this was probably a monster of a wine; deep, dark and lots of stuffing. I'd have ideally drank it 10 years ago, but it is more than drinkable today.

Definitely surpassed all our expectations with its sheer longevity.
