Monday, December 10, 2012 - A decent cork for a change after a run of horrors. Decanted and drunk over the next 4 hours or so. The color of this wine is astonishing- a translucent nebbiolo-style ruby with barely a hint of bricking. The nose immediately reminds me of a 79 Haut-Brion I had, with a complex blend of bitumen and burning embers, combined with a hint of eucalyptus. Where this differs from the 79 is that it still has fruit left- a delicious aroma of maraschino cherry.

In the mouth it's quite tart, lean and still fairly tannic with a longish finish. By comparison to, say, a recent medoc '66, it is far more austere. An intellectual wine, but not a sumptuous one.
