Friday, August 6, 2010 - I'm in the minority on this one. Perhaps it's over the hill, or just so ripe that VA has taken over. I'm not calling it flawed, but it's close. Though the bottle has been properly stored since purchase from the winery, the nose smells EXACTLY like those brandied cherries you get in a jar from Italy. I like those, but not in my wine. That's the whole nose. The mouth is a little more intriguing as it brings back some black cherry, stewed rhubarb and cola that keeps repeating into the finish. Nice smooth tannins and decent opulence, but the sweetness is cloying from overripe fruit. I'm a big fan of fruity CA Pinots, but this one is like a circus clown.
