Friday, March 18, 2016 - Chateau Maugey has been a favorite of mine with its 2005 vintage.
So I expected a special wine in the heralded vintage 2010 - and was slightly disappointed.
The 2010-version displays the tell-tale characteristics of Chateau Maugey, its leather-notes, soft texture and evolved sweet-fruit-style, which come from the extended aging in barrel ("three winters from harvest on").
But the wine was lacking the tannic backbone, that I remember from its 2005 sibling. As it was already nicely drinkable, I do not expect it to age favourably for more than five years.
Nevertheless, due to its old-school treatment and corresponding aromatics this is a standout in Bordeaux.
