Sunday, April 3, 2005 - Dark ruby/purple, almost black. Looks very thick. The nose is restrained at first, but decanting for 3 hours helped a lot to bring out some complex aromas of black currant, wood spice, hint of toast and tar - very typical Montrose profile. On the palate massive,y et refined and retains a sense of balance. The tannins coat the entire mouth and the fruit impression is very ripe, especially for the year. I couldn't sense anything green in this wine, but it is very structured, so I think it will close down hard in a few years. But it can be drunk now with pleasure if one enjoys young BDX. Very nice wine, in line with my experiences with other left bankers from this underhyped vintage. Drink now to 2007 and then again from 2015-2030.
