2002 Château Montrose

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Monday, April 5, 2021 - 13% alcohol. CS 62%, M 32%, CF 4%, 2PV %. The cork is above average in length, and it is not very dense at all, but on the other hand it is pretty elastic; wine penetration is about 8mm (uneven). Decanted 75mn ahead. The colour is dark with very limited thinning at the rim and some turbidity.
Very vivid nose with wild red berries and some confectionery; recognisably Médoc, but not quite classical. The mouth adds a refreshing aspect, very good grip and leafy menthol in the finish; not hard but certainly firm.
Incredibly young and with a great future ahead. I would never have guessed nearly a third of M in this wine.
The repeat purchase status does not arise given the price escalation since the start of the Bouygues era, plus the relative ageing abilities of the wine and myself. Looking forward to following the evolution of the remaining bottles in the cellar in the years to come.
