95 Points

Thursday, February 21, 2019 - Unlike the 85 alongside which benefits from air but doesn’t absolutely need it, the 86 is a tight, monolithic wine out of the gate. This absolutely needs 2 hours of decanting before really over-delivering with a suave nose - elegant but with lots of the power of 86; red currant, blueberry, plum, cedar, loam, and subtle touches of violet. A masculine expression of Palmer. Good balance, long finish. The best days are ahead (Or now with a decant). What fun to drink this with the 85 - Palmer tells the story of the two vintages articulately.
