90 Points

Tuesday, November 1, 2016 - From 750ml. Popped and poured. Like the other '05s from Hirtzberger, this is aging on the fast track. Fully mature at 11 years of age. Very round and voluptuous, almost sweet, but given lift by the savory herbal notes typical of GV and the overall medium body typical of the vintage. The acidic structure and tactile spice that this wine often fascinatingly displays are more in the background. With the exception of Hochrain, I wouldn't hesitate to pull corks on the '05s, as this more delicate vintage appears to be at the tail end of its drinking window.
