Wednesday, March 1, 2006 - Spactacular syrah. Medium bodied brick red wine (slight garnet). Rich full aroma of cherry and currant. Tons of fruit on a perfectly integrated frame and soft tannin. Drinking perfectly, likely at its peak. 10/00 Still tasting great 1/04.
I've always loved the underrated (and reasonably priced) 85, but this particular bottle didn't show as well as others I've had. Fill level was a bit lower than most of my other bottles, so who knows... Full red color. Medium round red fruit aroma. Nice round red fruit on the palate with a hint of spice. Jim noted a sweet creaminess in the palate that he didn't think fit well. Lacked the grip and complexity of other examples I've had, but still pleasurable enough. 91 pts. 9/05
Older Rhones - Group #5, My #3 - Full crimson ruby with signs of loightening. Full aroma of black fruit and coffee with a green pepper note. Lovely rich black coffee fruit with a long finish and nice balance. 94 pts. 3/06
