Thursday, December 29, 2016 - I've put off this tasting note for a while because this is one of those wines that can be difficult to fully come to terms with. Ultimately this is the most complex and alluring Champagne I have ever tasted. Yes the finish is amazing. Yes the mousse. Yes the brioche character permeates. And everything perfectly balanced by an amazing vibrancy, purity, and clarity of fruit. This shows very young for its age (yes it was recently disgorged, but even allowing for that fact...)

I could try to add all the descriptors, but I feel it woefully inadequate. I'll just mention a few that really stick with me - overwhelming lemon oil, black tea, grains of paradise, white peaches, dried green apple, bergamot et. al.

I tried to talk myself out of applying such a high score, but in the end I think it's the right score. Possibly even a little higher.

As an additional note, I will add that there is some bottle variation out there (of course and expected with older wines). I have tasted 2 bottles (this review is for the second one). The first bottle was a bit more developed and not quite as nuanced. It was definitely still on point, but I would put it a notch or two below the second bottle I reviewed above.
