Tuesday, July 25, 2017 - Screwcap. Not the "flower label", but a label with one corn flower on it. I hope its the same wine. Or maybe I don't, because what I have in my glass is pretty dire. I accept that you are not likely to get great Beaujolais for €8 a bottle in a supermarket, but the combination of Brouilly, Duboeuf and 2015 surely should bode well? And yes, the fruit is slightly darker and deeper, it has some substance and nice Gamay typicity, but on the palate the unripe phenolics are very dry and what should be a lush and succulent finish is like cold, black tea. Maybe they harvested (too) early to avoid alcoholic overripeness? However this may be, the whole thing feels disjointed and charmless. Wars are nor won by evacuations, but this is hardly a reason to fight for France. God only knows what would have happened if Churchill had factored climate change into the equation...
