Monday, October 14, 2019 - Gordon Estate's 2013 Tradition is a deep garnet, medium-bodied blend of 55% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 10% Malbec. Sculpted and refined, it emphasizes finesse over power. Dark plums, black currants, bittersweet chocolate, espresso, graphite and baking spices comprise a solid core which is supported by fresh acidity, well-woven alcohol (listed as 13.1%) and silky-textured tannins. Despite 22 months of aging in French oak barriques (40% new), the wood plays a complementary role and does not overpower the fruit. Although the middle palate could use a bit more stuffing, the resurrected finish is medium in length and very smooth. Now at six years of age, this seductive red is showing nicely and should be enjoyable for several more years. Drink now-2028.
