94 Points

Sunday, October 19, 2014 - Alex's Promotion Party (Alex and Fiona's in AMK): A great wine – this was a very enjoyable way to kick off the evening. While it had a lovely golden-yellow hue that spoke of its age, it certainly did not drink like a 30 year old wine. The nose showed really attractive notes of white fruit drizzled with gentle honeyed tones, with light notes of cream and brioche and a little seam of seashelly mineral aromas. An attractively mature bouquet, but not one belonging to a wine as old as a 1981. The palate shared that same mix of mature and youth, with lovely golden tones of honeyed stone fruit infused with a gentle minerality at first, opening up with time to show more complex tones of sweet corn, white meat and spice. The wine showed its Meursault character quite nicely in the impressive depth and fleshy roundness of its flavours, but what I really liked was how clear and pure this was in spite of its weight and maturity. It felt clean as a whistle, with a beautifully integrated stream of lemony acidity and a gentle infusion of minerality giving it a lovely sense of focus and linearity. Lovely stuff, drinking beautifully on the night.
