Wednesday, May 27, 2020 - Earthy wild red and purple plum, black raspberry, spice box, incense, bitter cacao powder, garrigue/underbrush, and some cedary forest floor. A front end straight-shot delivery of primary flavors reluctantly gives way to a more complex interplay of purple berry and spice notes. The mid-palate expands with a bit of a furrowed brow, but is able to show its more flavorful side as air is permitted to infiltrate the swirling glass. Finishes with a pleasantly dust-coated plum note that lingers.
Extremely good potential here, with a nice tick of broad-shouldered Grand Cru authority without over-flexing with any heat or booze. It’s on an exciting path. Give it 5++ years to develop some density and heightened flavor complexity. A conservative 95-96+ points for now.
