Wednesday, February 8, 2023 - WOW - This wine could not be in a better place than it is today. If you know me (I'm assuming most of you don't) then you know that California pinot isn't the first thing I jump to when diving into the cellar (in fact it is often the last, outside a select group of producers who I adore: Pisoni, Ferren, Arista, Littoral and a few others)

Anyway, I had a craving to make chicken marsala tonight from early in the day. I knew I was either going to open a Morgon Beaujolais or a Pinot of some kind. While I was digging around in my inventory I saw this bottle of '15 Anthill Campbell Ranch that I remember picking up from the winery a few years back with a really good friend of mine so I had fond memories of the trip.

Long story, well it's still long I guess but I'll try to distill it; the wine is in its sweet spot right now. It is truly elegant and just singing. Brambly and high toned with a lot of dried red fruits to start. That soon gives way to some tertiary character. The conifer forest floor is definitely in the mix here. Silky on the palate with some grip towards the end.

While this will effortlessly age another few years, I think it is in the perfect spot right now!
