90 Points

Wednesday, May 25, 2022 - Color is medium purple with lots of garnet notes. The nose is intense with lots of ripe dark fruits and licorice. On the palate ripe dark cherries, dark plum, lots of licorice, dark olives and some minty notes. Full bodied with a medium acidity. Tannins are grippy. Medium (+) complexity. The alcohol (15%) is a little too dominant. All in all it feels a little overdone, there’s just too much ripe fruit. Nice medium (+) long finish.
It’s ok for a second wine but I definitely prefer the Amon-Ra from Ben Glaetzer, it shows more complexity and balance.
I don’t think this will improve with more age, maybe it will soften out a bit, but I can’t see it getting more complex or balanced. Drink now until 2030. (IG)
