Community Tasting Note

Wednesday, December 1, 2004 - Double decanted 30 minutes prior to serving. Showing a color of deep garnet in the glass with no discernable rim. The nose was nose quite primary, with rich sweet dark fruits. The palate follows the nose offering a good mouth feel, nice balance of medium body, with slight residual tannins in the finish. An hour into the bottle the nose and palate thinned out considerably, the palate a little on the acidic side. This caused concern that it may have now be dying in the glass. The wine was actually moving through a phase and the nose began to develop some secondary characteristics. Now there was some leather and earth as the fruit became more muted. The palate gained a little body back and the fruit remained sweet, the tannins now being an afterthought. The finish was not of great note but, in line with the overall quality of the wine. This is a 1986 that is good to go now. However, it will continue to hold for a few more years.
