93 Points

Sunday, November 9, 2008 - When first poured, tar dominated the nose, but with about two hours in the decanter, that tar loosens up to some nice cocoa powder, loam, brambly cedar spice, and lots of currant. Gorgeous, dense and complex nose that says Chile all over it. The mouth is very Bordeaux, primarily currant and black cherry, with notes of tobacco and leather that carry through the very nice finish. Gets a profile of increasing sweet tones with time. 93+
(I have an odd feeling that I've underrated this relative to some ratings I've given recently to the '05s from Clos Apalta and Don Melchor. It's an excitement factor, probably, but you gotta credit wines with excitement, don't you?)
