2016 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Wednesday, November 23, 2022 - This was hard to drink after the 86, 96 and 2006. It was so big it was distracting. But, this is an incredibly well made wine. Already the fruit and oakstructure are in harmony. Althogh maybe the least enjoyable wine of the evening, it is the best made wine of them all and will be off the charts in 30 years. To bad I will probably be dead by then, but my kids should have a hell of a note...

It's so ripe and the winemaking quality has never been higher, but many of the top Chateau seem proud when there are descriptors like "it's immortal!" I'm in late 40's and closing out my buying of top Bordeaux in a year or two. Ultimately, I want to drink the stuff, not just look at it! The kids can buy their own stuff! Thanks for taking one for the team opening a '16 Ducru!

11/23/2022 4:20:00 PM - I'm joking around, I am in my late 40's, I do agree my Bordeaux future buying years are coming close to an end. But after having the '86, '96 and 2006 last night, this wine with 20-30 years of age is so damn good!!!! and the 2016's with age, may be epic... I will drink my bottles before I am gone, but when these wines hit their matuartion point, my lordy they are good...

11/23/2022 4:29:00 PM - Agree on how much better these get with 20 years age. I drank a 2000 Ducru a couple years ago without decant and was blown away. That instantly turned me into a Ducru fan, though I only have two more bottles of that 2000 as aged Ducru. I'm happy buying more now in the hopes that I'll be here in 20 to enjoy them. May you be too!

11/23/2022 4:44:00 PM - We are alike. 2000 Ducru is what made me fall head over heels for Ducru as well. I bought 12 bottles from a gas station in NJ where the owner bought local cellars. It was not stored well, maybe progressed the bottles 15-20 years, but the 2000 Ducru needed that. They were perfect and $85. I then starting buying well stored 2000 Ducru and quickly figured out these need forever to come around. I am still sitting on a few 2000's, but try to buy every vintage of Ducru and try to stay patient
