Wednesday, December 12, 2012 - Hard to believe it was over 3.5 years ago that I opened one of these last...time flies! I commented then that the wine was quite "European" compared to many modern Napa cabs. That impression remained in place today. The wine opened quite tight, showing some grip and not at all a fruit-bomb entry. Very refined elements here - some graphite, a bit of cedar. The fruit is more cool red fruit. As the wine opens in the glass (and with some fattier beef) the wine loosens some and shows more fruit. This is definitely broad on the palate, and mouthcoating (but not in a viscous way). Relatively light on its feet for what it is - I think 1997 was a strong year for this wine! No hurry on these if they are well-stored, though if you want your Napa cabs primary, that ship has already sailed.
