Monday, March 27, 2023 - A private dinner (Restaurant Schwarzer Adler *, Oberbergen, Germany): Bottle No. 01189 / 5.047 bottles produced. Not decanted, opened two hours in advance. No frost damage. Mind blowing. Intoxicating nose, enveloping complexity and depth, orange zest, salt, Islay malt, sweet spices, a panoply of aromas, a core of fleshy, fruity depth surrounded by the “floral lift of the first day of spring” (thank you Elizabeth); the palate is rich and creamy, silky and elegant, smoky and sweet, powerful and structured and effortlessly flowing into the almost neverending finish. A dreamy wine. Transcends its terroir – or at least as we know it?
