Thursday, December 30, 2010 - Decanted 1 hour. Very dark, dark purple, with a ruby rim. Nose of wood, black pepper (duh) and some blackberry fruit. Tons of structure in the mouth, with a sweet vanilla and pepper attack, full mid-palate with blackberry fruit and more pepper, and a long finish of espresso and pepper. Quite acidic, this still has some tannins kicking around that dry the mouth slightly on the finish. Holds it's 14.5% alcohol quite well, as I detected no trace of heat in nose or mouth. This wine begs for a grilled medium-rare steak...sure wish I had one right now! If I had another bottle, I would hold this wine another 3-4 years, as it will continue to develop complexity.
