Saturday, February 3, 2024 - Nice red fruit! I got aromas of black cherry pie, slightly burnt toast, maybe graham cracker. Mocha, rhubarb, cardamom, hints of mint or menthol, some spice and a little chocolate. There was a slight funkiness that was actually pleasant and appealing.

Taste like cherry liquor without the presence of alcohol. After an hour that taste seemed to be more like raspberry: a nostalgic reflection of Chambord. The tannins were mild sweet and somewhat chewy.

The acidity was mild. The wine was well balanced with seamless integration. It had a pleasant long finish which seemed to go on and on and on. The funkiness that I mentioned was ever present. It actually added character to the wine. After 60 minutes in the glass the wine homogenized. It was very smooth and well rounded. It was very reminiscent of the 2009 and 2012 vintages.

To me this is another example of Classic Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. It is a fabulous wine that personifies the high elevation mountain fruit of the Keenan Estate vineyards and their style of wine making. Bravo !

This 2016 Keenan Reserve seems to be in a sweet spot and might be at its peak. However, I believe that it will remain in this state for at least five more years. It could actually get better during the next couple of years.
