2004 Shafer Relentless

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Tuesday, June 18, 2019 - Way way way too young. I can’t understand the notes saying this is past its prime??!! I wish I had waited. Beautiful aromas and intense ripe fruits. But no tertiary flavors at all. Plenty of acid and tannin to go longer. Best on day 3.

I can see that if you re in between the secondary and the tertiary phases, this may not be that good, but the secondary phase of the '12 was soooo smooooth with great fruit, I just couldn't wait any longer! I didn't know you were solely a tertiary girl!

Maybe one of the more magical syrahs I've ever had, not that I drink a lot of them, lol! I have one left. I may try to hold it 4-5 more years just to see what it does.

Definitely not even close to one of the best Syrah experiences for me, and although I prefer mature Syrahs, I also really enjoy the young ones. This was just too unevolved to be interesting for me.

The '12 was just so soft and silky for being such powerful fruit and flavor profile. A really big masculine wine that drank in a very feminine way.....

July 3rd is 15 years from our San Francisco engagement- and for this California beauty. Looking forward to weighing in on the bottle!!! Noroc! ...But we also have one last 2004 Caymus SS so... Maybe we'll crack both...
