Sunday, September 27, 2020 - Beautiful wine with depth and personality. Does come across as a bit like an amarone … strength, depth of flavour. Dal Forno treats this well, drying many of the grapes as if it was for amarone (although not as long).

Granite in colour with some browning on the edges. Dark wine, a bit inky with fine sediment.
The nose is not as intense as one would assume. Thick smelling, dark dried berries and plums, licorice, tar and herbs. Picking up a noticeable balsamic element this time. Very nice complexity.
This drinks like an amarone, except not quite as concentrated as the top end amarones come across as. This is full bodied, and a long finish. Silky dusty tannins. Bitterness on the midpalate to finish. Starts off with dried dark fruits and plums, tobacco, espresso, dark bitter chocolate. Then figs and the balsamic element roll in with a pleasant bitterness, herbs, dark chocolate, and tar. You do feel the alcohol after a few glasses, but the alc is well integrated.
Great overall depth and balance. Not quite as good as my previous bottle 2 years ago, but still excellent and enjoyable.
