92 Points

Monday, June 14, 2010 - Interesting. Nice plum red with some bricking and hints of amber at the rim. Nose has a strange stewed component, not corked, but I'm guessing the result of uneven ripening in the vintage - some over, some under-ripe. Good, bright red fruits, but some volatility as well. On the palate, this moved through a weird disjointed phase where I almost blew this off, but it came around to become a mountain grown, ripe-fruit focused, well made Zin - but from a difficult vintage with minimal raw materials. Like a beautiful woman with a long scar on her cheek - hard not to notice, but with everything else going on, you really want to. 88 quality to fit the vintage, 92 pts intellectual curiosity and stimulation. An interesting wine, but drink up before this gets even stranger.
