Wednesday, January 27, 2021 - The End of the Golden Weather: a pre-COVID-19 Visit to Central Otago in Autumn 2020: Mike opened a pair of 2005s from the library for us to taste side-by-side. Both a similar garnet colour, the Block 5 a little darker. Both wines the product of a difficult harvest. A small crop (2.5 tonnes per ha) from 12 year old vines. A bouquet of dried herbs, preserved red fruit, tobacco and musk. It dances on the palate. The more elegant wine with finer tannins. Fully developed. Wet earth, dried herbs, dried red fruit and sous bois. ABV 13.5%. Preferred. Drink soon.
