1964 Oddero Barolo

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Thursday, October 3, 2013 - My third time with this now, the two previous having been during Nebbiolo Prima in 2011. Now, as before, I'm at a loss for words. Initially very off-putting (50 yr old) aromas that subsided over the full course of two hours in decanter. One of the greatest transformations I've witnessed because by the two hour mark, and steadily into the third and fourth hours as this was finished, this was positively signing, and clearly signaled another decade is yet ahead. Head-spinningly good with a black truffle/agnolotti dish. very highly recommended

11/3/2013 2:12:00 AM - Woah! What a stunning experience... Thanks for sharing. It's true that well aged wines are the biggest sources of excitement and pleasure.
Yesterday, I sat on the cellar floor in Vila Viniteca's storage room in Barcelona, toying with which old Rioja to choose. As funds are limited, I couldn't buy them all... They had one Palacios GR from 1935, but I chose a much younger one: 1973 La Rioja Alta GR (ex bodega). Holding high hopes for it, but maybe not as high hopes as I would with your maturing '64 Oddero.
Isn't this a fantastic way of life :-)
