92 Points

Thursday, December 21, 2017 - Last wine tasted at Boekenhoutskloof Winery and third from their flagship line. This vintage (first in 1996) is made up of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. Aged for a total of 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels.

Dark and opaque ruby red. A bit mute on the nose with just some purple flowers, chalkiness and spices coming through. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) with some high acid. Full body with some earthiness, dust, cherries and dark spices on the palate. Very dry and long finish. Needs a little bit of time to mellow out and develop. Drink till 2032. (92+)
