Saturday, July 6, 2019 - The 78 Pepe Trebbiano was a true treat to taste from a bottle that had clearly been perfectly stored. With no info out there on this vintage, I had no idea what to expect, but what I found was a wine full of life with incredible depth for its age.
The nose was gorgeous and highly expressive, with white flowers, anise, and chamomile. Apricot, a touch of honey, and baking spices swept across the palate with refreshing acidity and a shocking amount of richness for a white wine of this age, ending in a long finish.
I don’t drink a lot of aged white wines, so this was an eye-opening moment to me as to how lively and powerful a white can be at 40 years of age.
