92 Points

Sunday, December 16, 2007 - 92+. My first Alsatian Riesling. Pale greenish-yellow. Floral, mineral and grassy aromas. (Great quality to the aromas, but more subdued than I expected. Hopefully will open up with age.) Flavors of peach, honey, stones, lemon, perhaps a bit of grapefruit. Noticeable sweetness (more than I expected), but plenty of acidic tang to back it up. Lots of orange peel, and occasional hints of light spice (white pepper?) on the wonderfully long, lively, steely and pleasantly bitter finish. Finish is by far the best part. There are still faint echoes of citrus an minerals over a minute later. Don't know anything about this sort of wine, but I suspect that it will have a lot more to give after some years in the cellar. We'll see. . . .
