Thursday, November 9, 2006 - 17 vintages of Ridge Zinfandel, '67 & '78 Stony Hill & Dessert Wines (Campanile in Los Angeles, CA.): Well, this is my first time trying a 29 yr old California Chardonnay. The wine showed a very light straw color. The fruit began to awaken with about 20 minutes in the glass to reveal some hinting citrus and honey notes. Very light bodied and short of acidity at first. Again, things got better with air, but the wine seemed a little over the hill. The nose eventually showed a lemon custard with hints of hazelnuts and the acidity perked up a bit. Surprisingly, there was very little oxidized qualities to this wine. It was a rare treat to sample this wine at almost 30 years of age.
