Thursday, June 29, 2023 - Decanted 30-min ahead of a seared ribeye, potato salad, and spinach salad. Faded crimson color with a purple hue. Floral nose brings intense cherry blossoms, eucalyptus, mint, and grape hard candy. The palate is medium, round, compact, and textured, bringing a top-line ridge of red fruit (cherries, raspberries) followed by a bottom-line core (blueberries, blackberries, and plums) mixed with chocolate espresso beans, pipe tobacco, and dried leather. The finish is still tannic but refined and silky. Elegant and graceful over opulent and extractive, this is a special 'old-school' Napa wine right out of the 1960s (Bordeaux style, but Napa terroir) and will only get better, so drink 2025-2035. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 93.
