Deep, dark and quite intense black cherry color that permits rather little light through. The nose is lively yet quite brooding with dark-toned aromas of sweet black cherries, some savory oak spice, a little bit of licorice, a hint of vibrant cranberry-driven red fruit and a touch of blackberry marmalade. Overall the nose feels slightly Burgundian and quite polished compared to the often more wild and crunchy style of Cru Beaujolais. The wine is moderately full-bodied, ripe and dark-toned with relatively big overall feel and somewhat polished flavors of sweet black cherries and blackberries, some licorice, a little bit of juicy red-toned primary fruit, a hint of savory oak spice and a touch of toasty wood. The mouthfeel is quite textural and somewhat soft with medium-to-moderately high acidity and ripe, gentle medium tannins. The finish is ripe, juicy and somewhat spicy with gentle tannic grip and slightly sweet-toned flavors of blackberries, peppery spice, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of sweet wild strawberry and a hint of dark plummy fruit.

A rather ripe, dark-toned and polished Moulin-à-Vent with somewhat Burgundian overall feel. The wine certainly shows the bold fruity typical of the appellation, but it is still somewhat anonymous in style. It is not a bad wine by any means, but perhaps lacking any kind of character that would keep me interested. An accessible and quite versatile everyday wine, but beyond that. Might benefit from a few years in a cellar, but doesn't really scream for any further aging. Priced somewhat according to its quality at 16,99€.
