Saturday, March 5, 2011 - Wow. I've had some other older Montelena vintages in the past (including this one, I think), but this particular bottle was something special. There was still a ton of buoyant blackcurrant and cherry fruit, with a minty overtone on the nose. There was no old rubber or Brett on the nose either, which I can sometimes detect on Napa wines, whether good or bad. The taste followed through on the nose with ripe blackcurrant, sweet leather, and minty cedar. The finish is what really sets this apart from other wines. You know how you sometimes drink a wine and say to yourself, "Woh!", after you taste it and your knees melt because the finish is so good. This bottle was one of those. This bottle exemplifies why I drink wine. You cannot duplicate this experience with any other kind of consumable.
