Friday, October 14, 2011 - I love it when you open a wine for a special moment and it just doesn't disappoint. Our last night in Hana at Hale Hana Inn sitting out on the porch overlooking an ancient Koi Pond eating our only home cooked meal of our trip. Fresh grilled rib eye steaks, potatoes and mixed greens salad. This was a special wine. '98 is an under-appreciated vintage for Napa Cab and this wine is really showing off its' stuff right now. Opened and let it air for almost an hour. Still showing black currant fruit, leather, cedar, pencil shavings on the nose and palate which was silky smooth and a lingering finish with dusty integrated tannins that goes on and on. Each sip seemed to get better and better. Too bad it wasn't a magnum, we probably would have drained it! I love it when a plan comes together.
