Saturday, August 25, 2007 - Tasted as part of a 1996-2002 Chateau Montelena vertical tasting. The ’98 certainly proved to be a solid wine – but seems to lack much of the potential offered by the ’96 and ’97. Big spicy nose, as usual, with a softer palate full of black cherry. Overall, a bit too acidic and tannic when compared against the previous two vintages. Still, a very fine Cabernet.
