Sunday, December 17, 2017 - Had been several years since my last bottle.Like most older Montelenas, you need to give the wine time to open. Started out a little thin and acidic. After 2 hours in the decanter decant, it opened and showed much better. Still dark ruby to purple in color. minimal browning at the edges. Still acts much younger than it is. Aromas of black cherry, leather, earth, currant, and smoke. The flavors mirror the nose with black cherry, earth, black currant. The finish has softened nicely. The tannins are smooth and lead to a long finish. In a really good place now, but based on previous wines, should hold for years and may even improve.Would not be afraid to hold another 10-20 years.
