Tuesday, March 15, 2022 - Opened without decanting as I feared it might already have peaked.
Not very well settled so difficult to evaluate visual aspect.
The hue appears to be fine still.
The nose is quite disappointing and doesn't meet my expectations.
It's quite neutral with only some savory notes. Seems quite disjointed and unbalanced. The alcohol is quite apparent...
The palate shows a fairly "heavy" wine; in many ways reminiscent of a Dry Creek valley Zinfandel; entirely on the heat and .roasted fruit side.
I would have liked a little more depth and length
Ultimately not that exciting...
Not going to improve.
Well...
It did improve overnight in the bottle, reached a more refined balance as well as more complexity. I read the warnings about oopening/decanting these wines. It clearly doesn't only apply to the high end Sagrantino wines but also to the entry level wines.
