Friday, June 9, 2023 - Popped the cork about 5 hrs early for a little decant. Graphite prevalent but nice fruit. Thats about it. Nice, but I dont expect I will return to this wine.

6/9/2023 9:44:00 AM - I would try this PnP if you try one again soon. I've had a few 16 BDVs over the past year and they're always best after a short 30 minute decant and then shut down after ~2 hours.

6/9/2023 1:48:00 PM - Nebbiolo is an odd beast when it comes to decanting. It's a reason that, although I love the wines, I do not open them as often. When they are young, it's typically better to pop and pour, or give a very long decant. The five hours you gave seems pretty long, but it might have needed 12 hours or more! When they are older, short to medium decants can be just fine. The problem is you often don't know when they are really ready, making it hard to plan for dinner. In any case, if I don't open them on release, I usually wait at least 10 years for a wine of this caliber unless it's an early drinking vintage.

Sangio, too, for that matter, even though I love both dearly (but in each instance, think that the quality of bottlings outside of Piedmont of the former and Tuscany of the latter is highly variable and usually forgettable. Concur on all of your decanting advice. Cheers!
