96 Points

Sunday, October 25, 2015 - Dark, practically opaque red-to-maroon color with clear, dried blood red rim; some sediment, so decanting is recommended. Complex and developed bouquet with mainly tertiary aromas of dried cassis, figs, smoke, dried flowers, dust, tobacco and a hint of leather; very Margaux-like. Full-bodied and concentrated mouthfeel with haunting, mature and savory flavors of juicy dark fruits, figs, prunes, some dust, sweet spice and a hint of cedar; underneath one can find a plethora of fleeting nuances that are simply impossible to grasp. Balanced acidity and smooth, velvety tannins that give a nice sense of grip. Very long, complex and slightly astringent finish that is a bit sweeter than the midpalate; flavors of dried prunes, dried flowers, leather, nutmeg and dry wood in the layered aftertaste.

An Incredible and delicious aged Cali Cab that is still in wonderful condition after 35 years; very hard to tell whether this is an aged, old-school Bordeaux or not! As this is not Monte Bello, but "only" a basic level Napa Cab made from purchased grapes, the price:quality-ratio of the wine is incredible at $50 for a bottle. A perfect example of the quality of Ridge Vineyards and how their wines are capable of extended cellaring.
