Deep garnet color. Pretty intense nose. Blackberry, black currant, plums and some tobacco and vanilla notes.
On the palate, full bodied, high tannins and medium acidity. Somewhat short finish. I expected more from GCC, more balance, complexity and length. Second wine of Kirwan 18 and D'Issan 18 were much better for me (better vintage?).

2/1/2023 6:00:00 AM - Night and day ‘18 is a much better vintage. Maybe this wine with time will broaden a bit- it’s 2011 certainly did and that is a poor vintage.

2/1/2023 6:35:00 AM - Thank you. Any comparison between Chateau Kirwan and Malescot? Few weeks ago I tried Chateau Kirwan 17 and it was really good.

2/1/2023 7:44:00 AM - Macie1- I can’t speak to 2017 vintages as it was a vintage, for the most part, I stayed away from. However Malescot for me is a clear leader in this QPR. Even the poor 2011 vintage was well constructed.

A little FYI they do build their wines with a fair amount of balanced structure (meaning start with a bit older like 2014 for an average vintage or 2015 for a better vintage). 2014 already has a nice fruit and beginning of earthy/truffle notes as well. Less development in the 2015 as it’s a better vintage but I am drinking the 2014s and enjoying the complexity.
